DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Danville community gathered downtown this morning to remember the lives lost on April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech.

Several community members shared their stories.

They remember exactly what they were doing when they heard about the events that day.

Mayor John Gilstrap says he is proud of Hokie nation for rallying around each other in support.

"You inspire not only this nation, but also the world. That resolve was evident ten years ago and it remains evident today," says Danville mayor, John Gilstrap.

A bell rang 32 times in memory of the lives lost, followed by a balloon release and prayer.
