Danville skate park gets major upgrades

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Philip Wyatt Memorial Skate Park in Danville is celebrating some major upgrades.

The park opened back in 2001 as a way to honor Philip Wyatt, a teen who died in a single-car accident at the age of 16.

Back in 2010 the park was vandalized, which sparked local artists to come together to repaint.

Today the park is nearly unrecognizable. It has new ramps, rails and benches among other equipment.

WDBJ7 spoke to Michael Smith, a skateboarder. He said, "It's a lot better now. There's a lot more variety. There's like a bunch of different stuff. The ramps are not falling apart so it's a lot better now."

The skate park is located in Dan Daniel Memorial Park on River Park Drive.
