Danville wishes to extend Riverwalk Trail, looks at funding

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Danville will be applying for some funding to expand the Riverwalk Trail.

Parks and Recreation says the main part of the trail is almost complete, with 11.7 miles of trail.

Now, they want to focus on connecting commercial and residential areas of the trail.

With the training, they are hoping to extend the trail from Robertson Bridge to Riverside Drive and from the future River District Riverfront Park to Union Street Bridge in front of the White Mill.

"Once we start branching off of that and really start making these connections between neighborhoods and communities, it'll be an even bigger asset to our community," says Emily Ragsdale with Danville Parks and Recreation.

Danville will apply for Virginia Department of Transportation alternative funding to pay toward the extensions.
