BOTETOURT Co, Va. (WDBJ7) The investigation continues into who hit and seriously injured a woman in Botetourt County last week. She's still in the hospital and WDBJ7 is hearing from her family for the first time.
State Police say the hit and run happened near the Pepsi facility along Route 11. As she's recovering, her daughter is pleading for someone to come forward with information.
Ashley Moxley is waiting. Waiting for her mom, Joyce Moxley, to recover, and for police to find out who hit her and drove away.
“I don't think anyone would know what patience is until you go through something this traumatic,” she said.
State Police say Moxley was walking to work last Wednesday. They say she was across from the Pepsi Plant when someone hit her around 5 am. Her family wasn't listed as an emergency contact with the DMV -- so they called searching when they hadn't heard from her.
Moxley said, “And I said to them do you have Joyce Moxley in the ER and they said no but we do have a Joyce Moxley in the neuro ICU.”
Ashely says her mom is still in critical, but stable condition, showing slow improvement.
“Last night she made eye contact with me and she mouthed the words I love you to me,” said Moxley.
Her family is celebrating small steps -- while anxiously awaiting more information about who did this.
George Bandy, Dad, said, “I want them to pay because this is ridiculous.”
“I need to know what happened to my mom,” said Moxley. “The worst part is not knowing what happened to her.”
They are hoping someone was driving this stretch of road and remembers something that can help investigators.
Police believe the person who hit her was driving a General Motors truck or SUV and would have damage on the car. Anyone with information is asked to call State police in Salem.
