RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) It was news that forced Shana Griffith to make a double take.
"I was just blown away. I couldn't believe it. My first thought is there is no way this is true," Griffith said.
Two of her former coworkers are now in jail after a police investigation at The Adventure Club Center in Radford. She had never head a complaint about either one.
"The parents all seemed to be very happy with them. I actually saw Charlotte out some and she would see the kids and they would come running over to her and the same way with Kim," Griffith said.
Charlotte Hall is facing 12 charges, five counts of assault and battery, and seven of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was denied bond. An arrest warrant shows three children age two were involved in incidents starting last August.
Hall was arraigned Tuesday morning. She appointed a lawyer.
Donna Thornton, the owner of the center, tells us Hall allegedly spanked a child out of the view of a monitoring camera and had an inappropriate tone with a student.
Another employee, Kimberly Albert is charged with two counts of obstruction of justice.
Thornton says Albert received complaints about a fellow employee, and is accused of rejecting those complaints.
Albert was granted a $1,500 secured bond. She is not allowed to leave Virginia and cannot contact any victims or witnesses. Her preliminary hearing is set for June 28.
Another employee reported the incidents to police. Thornton says she just learned of this when police arrived to investigate and later arrest Albert and Hall.
Police searched the office last week for employee records, files, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Thornton tells me she is meeting with parents this week to calm people's fears and hear their anger. And is cooperating with the investigation. A few parents have taken their children out of the daycare program. She is refunding all of their daycare fees.
Hall and Albert are due in court Tuesday morning.
