Driver identified in fatal Patrick Co. crash

STUART, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Virginia State Police have confirmed that one is dead after a single vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, November 10 at around 10 p.m.

The crash took place on Route 57 near Route 846 in Patrick County.

State Police say that a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling west on route 57 when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, striking an embankment.

The vehicle then overturned and ejected the driver.

The driver has been identified as Frederick Barry Wimbush, 55, of Stuart, Va.

Wimbush was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he later died.

State Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

This crash is still under investigation at this time.
