BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Voted started early today at Gilbert Linkous Elementary School in Blacksburg and neither Trump or Clinton were on the ballot.

Instead Kindergartners voted for "Duck" or "My Teacher" for President.

The two characters are straight out of story books with the same name.

Each one of the students had a chance to think about his or her vote and cast a ballot in a booth before getting a sticker.

"It aligns with our standards of learning. It's authentic, it's engaging, and it's also adorable. So it kind of works all the way around," said Tess Brooke, a kindergarten teacher.

Teachers say the experience helps students learn about the election process. It was a tight race but in the end "My Teacher" won the popular vote.
