FOREST, Va. (WDBJ7) Emergency responders in Bedford County say they were able to safely rescue a teenage girl who got stuck on a frozen pond.
Crews were dispatched to a home on New London Road around 1:50 Thursday afternoon. Initial reports indicated a person was stuck on broken ice in an intertube.
People at the scene told WDBJ7's Ashley Anne that several teens were sledding Thursday afternoon when the girl slid too far and ended up onto the frozen pond.
The girl broke through the ice but was able to stay on the tube and above the water, according to Bedford County officials.
Specialized resources responded to the incident. Officials say it took two ice water technicians to pull the girl back to safety.
The Forest Volunteer Fire Department reported that the rescue was complete around 2:15 Thursday.
Property owners say luckily, the girl was unharmed and did not need medical treatment.
