ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A big blank space along Jamison Avenue in Southeast Roanoke is getting a makeover.

Neighbors were tired of passing by the wall and decided to do something about it.

Through Facebook, neighborhood groups decided to take the issue to the city.

With the help of grant, the wall is turning into a large mural that will represent change and diversity.

“I just want people to see that's the power of community. Bringing neighbors together can really make beautiful things happen,” says one of the organizers Nicole Harris.

A local artist created the artwork with the help of volunteers, some from as far as New Jersey.

The mural is expected to be finished by Friday.
