Experts say home improvement projects should include an insurance check-up

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) An Allstate Insurance national survey shows fewer than half of homeowners say they updated their insurance policy after making improvements to their new home.

Vice President of Homeowners Insurance Shannon Bowes says a major home makeover or purchase should also include an insurance update.

She says that should happen when you're making any updates to your home, whether it be kitchen or bathrooms even plumbing or electric. Bowes says if you add or repair a roof, that's also a great time to chat with an insurance agent.

There are also a whole host of discounts that people should be talking to their agent about for installing security systems, making key updates to their home.
