BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A federal judge found a Blacksburg doctor guilty of dozens of crimes after investigators say he committed fraud to obtain drugs.

Frank Purpera of the Virginia Vein Institute was convicted of 68 counts.
They include making false statements, intentionally omitting information from a report, and getting controlled substances by fraud.

Last year the Drug Enforcement Administration raided his office in Blacksburg, claiming he was the largest buyer of pain killers in southwest Virginia.
