Fellowship Community Church feeds first responders as part of 'Operation Turkey Drop'

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Fellowship Community Church volunteers took time out of their Thanksgiving holiday to make sure first responders in Roanoke, Vinton, Salem and more could enjoy Thanksgiving.

The church dropped off the meals as part of their annual "Operation Turkey Drop" to local fire and police departments and emergency room personnel who were on duty Thursday.

Fire Station 1 in Salem expressed gratitude for the food.

"Well, it is really nice, the community comes together and brings this food for us," said Salem Firefighter Charles Wilkins.

"It's just nice someone thinks about us on a day that a lot of people are home with their families."

This is the 14th year the church has dropped off Thanksgiving meals to first responders.
