BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Thanksgiving is still more than a week away, but signs of Christmas are already showing up in Bedford.
The annual "Festival of Trees" opened Wednesday at the Bedford Welcome Center. 28 Christmas trees have been decorated by various non-profits in the community.
This year's theme is "Down Home Country Christmas." Trimmings on and around all of the trees feature relics and images of holidays past.
Visitors can vote for the favorite display with a $1 donation. Money raised will go to the participating charities. Last year's event raised $3,261.
"When people vote for their tree, the money goes directly to the charity they have chosen," said Judi Jackson, a welcome center volunteer.
Bedford's "Festival of Trees" runs through New Years Eve. The Bedford Welcome Center is open to the public from 9 AM until 5 PM daily, but will remain open on extended hours until 9 PM on December 2nd, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 16th.
