WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS,W.Va. (WDBJ) The PGA stars are out for the Greenbrier Classic.
“I like Bubba, Bubba Watson," says Aaron Walker. "And I actually got paired with him today. And then my second opinion would be Jordan Spieth, so …”
But Walker gets to be a little closer to Bubba than most. He’s one of the area first responders chosen to caddy in the pro-am at the Greenbrier Classic.
“It’s totally different from what it was that day,” he says when asked about the flooding a year ago.
Walker, an Army Reservist, was activated to help with recovery in White Sulphur Springs, while Shawn Woolford was part of the fire and rescue work in Rainelle, just up 64.
“There was quite a lot to be done that day and quite a lot of people getting rescued," Woolford remembers. "But there’s been a lot of good work since then for the town.”
Wednesday it’s more about fun and games, especially when you’re playing with the stars of “Duck Dynasty” and Bubba Watson.
But Woolford explains, “Yeah, that’s what we’ve been discussing, just the difference between now and a year ago and the difference on this course, you know, the pictures of it a year ago versus how great they have it now, so it’s been a big change in a year’s time.”
And though some of the amateur's games are not an actual disaster, at least they have Bubba to help this time.
“I’m sure it’s going to be a good time," Walker says. "I’m sure it’s going to be some jokes and laughter, especially with Bubba.”
