FLOYD CO., Va. (WDBJ7) Floyd County is pledging to become more green.
In a unanimous decision, the board of supervisors passed a resolution planning to work with regional allies to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The hope is to replace all fossil fuels with renewable energy. The county plans to support tax incentives that promote green jobs that protect the environment.
"People who live here in Floyd who have lived here forever like the clean air, they like the beautiful scenery, they like our forests, and we want to try to maintain that. One of the ways to do this was to pass a resolution," said Linda DeVito Kuchenbuch, a member of the county board of supervisors.
The county school system is looking at ways to replace its aging coal boilers by incorporating solar power heat sources.
