Former Army sergeant sentenced to 12 years

BEDFORD CO., Va. (WDBJ7) A former Army sergeant receives 12-year sentence after having a relationship with a 14-year-old.

Officials say Angelo Paderes, 27, had been talking with a 14-year-old online. He traveled to Bedford County from Georgia to meet the 14-year-old. Police say he picked up a woman and her 2-year-old child in Northa Carolina under false pretenses. He eventually left the woman and child. He was taken into custody in Georgia.

Paderes is charged with abduction.

According to a Bedford County official, Paderes received a 12-year active sentence. An additional 10-year prison sentence was suspended upon the following conditions:

When he is released, he will be on good behavior for 10 years, with the first 5 years supervised by probation and parole.
He was ordered to have no contact with the victims in this case.
He must register as a sex offender.
Paderes must undergo any sex offender treatment ordered by his probation officer.
He will have no unsupervised contact with any minor.
No access to the Internet, unless approved by his probation officer.
