MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) A former Martinsville City Sheriff's Deputy has been indicted on drug charges.

Kenneth McFarling is charged with six counts of distribution of a controlled substance.

According to Henry County court documents, the incidents happened between 2012 and 2016.

He retired from the sheriff's office in 2012, but was working there part-time.

The sheriff terminated him about three weeks ago.

"I'm shocked, and disappointed of course, of what I've heard. But you've got to remember that these allegations were not while he was working because all of our services are in the city and the charges were in Henry County," says Martinsville Sheriff, Steve Draper

McFarling is out on bond.
