Fugitive found in Tazewell County; charged with sexual abuse

TAZEWELL CO., Va. (WDBJ7) According to the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshall Service and deputies from the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office raided a location that was housing a fugitive, Michael A. Newell, out of Ohio County, West Virginia Wednesday.

Newell was taken into custody and charged with sexual abuse of the first degree (victim under 12 years of age) and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian to a child.

Deputies said these crimes happened between December 2015 and December 2017 in Ohio County, West Virginia.

Newell is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Tazewell without bond. Newell is currently awaiting extradition back to West Virginia.
