Girls Rock! Roanoke returns for another summer

Summer camp teaches music skills, all while spreading message of empowerment and self-confidence

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) There are hundreds of summer camps to choose from, but only one makes your daughter a rock star for a week.

In just five days, campers form a band, write an original song with their peers, and perform live on the final day of camp.

Girls Rock! also empowers campers with other skills too, like team building and conflict resolution.

This year, it'll include lessons on online and social media safety.

"Kids really get addicted to their tablets and then phones. As parents, we're seeing that more and more often. So, we want to make sure that kids and parents have great information, so we can keep our kids safe and really use the internet for good," says Kim Bratic with Girls Rock! Roanoke.

The camp is a few weeks early this year, running June 18 to the 22nd for girls ages 8 to 12, and June 25th through the 29th for girls ages 12 to 16.
It's at the Community School in Roanoke.
