Group gathers to support people living with MS

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, More than 2-million people live with multiple sclerosis. A local support group is helping survivors fight back.

MS is a disease where the body's immune system attacks the person's central nervous system. The Multiple Sclerosis Alliance of Virginia held their annual Christmas gala and brunch for . Guests met author Danica King who just released a book about living with the disease.

"It is an invisible disease, many times people are in wheel chairs or have a cane, you can see that," said Danica King, multiple sclerosis survivor and author. "But you can't always see the cognitive issues. I have severe cognitive issues, which made it really hard to write a book."

The support group has several events coming up, including a bowl-a-thon in March .
