Highty-Tighties to march in Governor's Inaugural parade

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets regimental band is taking part in Ralph Northam's inauguration Saturday.

The Highty-Tighties will march in the inaugural parade and play Tech Triumph.

The timing of the parade has been challenging. Many students aren't back in Blacksburg yet, because classes don't begin until next week.

Several members will be joining the corps in Richmond well rehearsed and prepared.

"I think it's an important performance. As far as the band's outreach goes, it's something that we can only do it once every election cycle and so to be selected for it obviously it's a great honor," Bren Huggins, the band commander.

More than 130 cadets will represent the university Saturday.

The band has marched in the last six gubernatorial parades and is planning to be in the 2018 New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade.
