House fire in Salem sends two to the hospital

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) Salem Fire and EMS responded to a fire at 503 S. College Ave. around 5:30 p.m. Friday. Crews arrived within minutes of receiving the call, and upon arrival, they found heavy fire coming from the second floor.

They say the fire was contained to two rooms, but the house sustained extensive smoke damage. They were able to contain the fire within about 20 minutes.

Two people were home at the time. They were able to escape with minor injuries.

Both of those people were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Salem Fire and EMS Fire Marshal’s Office rule the cause to be undetermined. Estimated damage is worth about $50,000.
