Incident damages, closes part of GE plant in Salem

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) Someone damaged equipment at the GE plant in Salem seriously enough to cause the closure of parts of the plant.

The company confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident that happened after business hours on Monday. No one was injured but the manufacturing building is temporarily closed.

A person damaged several pieces of production equipment at the facility. The company has determined that there were only GE employees on property during the incident.

GE Energy Connections is aware of an incident that occurred at its Salem, Virginia location on Monday, January 9, 2017. An unknown person or persons obtained access to the manufacturing facility after hours, causing damage to systems and production materials. No one has been injured, however it has impaired business operations and the manufacturing building has been closed temporarily. Authorities have been notified and we are actively investigating the situation and will inform employees when they should report back to work.
