LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Centra's breast cancer foundation received a large check donation today.

The Lynchburg Fire Department presented a $14,000 check to Centra's "Mammograms Annually A Must" program.

The fire department raised the money through their 2017 Cancer Awareness T-shirt Campaign.

The money will be used to support breast cancer awareness and provide free mammograms for women in the area who can't afford them. "At this time of the holidays, it's a perfect time to receive this gift. We would like to thank all the people who actually purchased the t-shirts form the fire department and thank the fire department again," said Kathryn Pumphrey, the Executive Vice President of Centra.

The money will also be used to support the "Cancer Patient Support Fund" at the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center.
