Virginia Tech 7, Liberty 6: Following a fumble by Hokies QB Jerod Evans, the Flames scored on a 3-yard TD run with 2:47 left in the first quarter. But Liberty missed the point-after try.

Virginia Tech 7, Liberty 0: The Hokies took a 7-0 lead on a 23-yard Jerod Evans pass to Cam Phillips with 10:50 left in the first quarter. The touchdown pass was set up by a Flames fumble.

The Virginia Tech football team kicks off the Justin Fuente era in Blacksburg on Saturday with a game against Liberty University.
