Labor Day Weekend Planner

(WDBJ7) It's the last official weekend of summer, so make sure you get out and have some fun. Here's a look at your weekend planner.

The Chateau Morrisette Vineyard is releasing three new ciders starting Saturday. The tastings are $5 a person, and include a taste of all three ciders plus information about how they are made and what foods to pair them with. Tasting times are regulated because the ciders are carbonated. So unlike the wine tastings, the cider tastings will happen at the bottom of the hour to keep the fizz fresh.

There's an End of Summer bash at the Natural Bridge Zoo Saturday and Sunday. All active duty military members, veterans, police officers, and first responders get in free. There will also be activities for the kids, including free face painting, a bouncy house, and other fun activities.

Or you can enjoy a Steamin' weekend at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Enjoy the museum and take a tour of the 611's cab. You can also blow the whistle and ring the bell on the Queen of Steam for $25. Closed toe shoes are required. There will also be a bus tour of historic N & W sites around Roanoke. The tour costs $30. It is Labor Day weekend, and there's a Fun Fest happening in downtown Moneta. Bring the whole family for lots of vendors, food, drinks, games and more. Admission is $10, kids 10 and under are free. All proceeds benefit the Moneta Fire Department.

Covington is also having a Labor Day party on Saturday. Black Mountain Revival is coming back to the Rail Bar and Grille starting at 9 p.m. Put on your dancing shoes and come out for a great time.

On Sunday you can come out to enjoy some theater under the Mill Mountain Star. It's called Starcropolis, and will feature stories about the star. They will be brought to life by actors, dancers, and other entertainers from all over the valley. It all starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 a person. Food tickets will be $20 and will be available the day of the event.

The 3rd Annual Bedford's Finest Fare is happening on Sunday. There will be bands playing while you sample some great food from local restaurants, plus local beer and wine. It happens from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in front of the Bower Center for the Arts. Tickets are $35 at the gate.

The Southern Virginia Draft Horse, Mule & Donkey show starts Saturday. The show is being held along with the Sedalia County Fair in Big Island. The fun starts at 10 a.m. at the Sedalia Center.

Come on out for a Labor Day Weekend Bash. It's happening on Sunday at noon at the Roanoke Moose Lodge on Route 311. Admission is $6 and includes a lunch of hot dogs and sides -- plus admission to the pool. There will also be live music and a horse shoe tournament.

Mud racing is coming back to the Gator Hole at the Gap Mills Community Center in West Virginia this weekend. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy some of the fastest trucks in the area. Admission is $10 and kids eight and under are free. The mud starts flying Sunday at 2 p.m.

Or if you're in the mood for something more relaxing, you can come out for the Midsummer Nights Dream - Floyd Yoga Jam. This event is happening all weekend long and includes music, yoga and an art festival. Click here for more information.

The Purple Foot Competition is happening on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It's at the Blue Ridge Vineyard in Eagle Rock. Make sure you bring a 16 lb. bag of Purina One dog or cat chow which will be donated to Angels of Assisi. Admission is free, and there will be some great music to enjoy.
