Law enforcement tribute in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Bike riders from Law Enforcement United stopped in Lexington Wednesday.

They passed through town on their way to Washington, DC’s Law Enforcement Memorial on a ride that began in Georgia to honor fallen officers and raise money to help support their families.

“An officer loses their life approximately every two to three days across this country," Matt Schrodel of Law Enforcement United said. "So there’s a lot of families that are hurting, and a lot of communities that are hurting, because a loss of an officer not only affects just one family, it affects the community as well and law enforcement across the country as well.”

There was a short ceremony to honor Rockbridge area officers lost in the line of duty.

The group raised over $300,000 last year to help the families of slain officers.
