Leaf collection continues in the city of Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Collecting leaves in the city of Roanoke is no small task.

Crews are now in the second week of Roanoke's four-week leaf collection schedule. And they have already picked up more than 65 tons of bagged leaves around the city.

Jeffrey Powell is Manager of Roanoke's Division of Solid Waste Management.

"You can just see where they fall on your particular neighborhood," Powell told WDBJ7, "rake 'em, bag 'em, and set 'em out. And the crews will go by and pick them up on your normal collection day."

The city doesn't collect loose leaves or plastic bags filled with leaves.

But people have two more weeks to put out biodegradable paper leaf bags on their normal collection day.
