LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) - The City of Lexington Fire Department announced on Wednesday that they have been awarded a grant for additional doses of the drug Naloxone, which is the antidote for opioid overdoses.

The grant was received from the Virginia Department of Health, and it will supply a nasal administration of the drug to all Lexington Fire Department EMS providers.

All providers will be able to administer this life saving drug when needed, not just Paramedics.

With the growing nationwide crisis of opioid overdoses, the Lexington Fire Department and the Virginia Department of Health are partnering up to be proactive about responding to these types of emergencies.
