ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Lexington man was cited after trying to bring a loaded .38 caliber handgun on an airplane Wednesday at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.
The man was stopped by TSA agents at a checkpoint. The gun was loaded with five bullets. The officer staffing the checkpoint X-ray machine detected the gun in the man’s carry-on bag as it passed through conveyor belt.
Police confiscated the gun and cited the man on a state weapons charge.
The TSA says weapons – including firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition – are not allowed in carry-on bags. Travelers who bring guns to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges and civil penalties from TSA of up to $12,000.
