LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Some Lexington students and teachers stepped up to help folks in need for the holiday.

The kids at Lylburn Downing Middle School had a competition with the teachers to see who could bring in the most food for the local food pantry. The truck came by this morning to pick up the load.

“There’s lots of people who don’t have food," says student Dylan Iddings. "And we need to try to donate as much food as you can get to people who don’t have the opportunity to get as much food as we can.”

The kids won the competition, bringing in more than 750 pounds of non-perishable items. The total take was half-a-ton of food.
