LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) At Lexington's Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital Wednesday morning, they planned an emergency.
They simulated having to react to a fire next door to the hospital with multiple injuries.
Staff were called together along with other local first responders to decide how they would handle a series of problems presented in the exercise.
"A community hospital is there for the community, and at Carilion we are absolutely committed to the communit," says Roger Glick, Carilion's Senior Emergency Management Consultant. "Which means that we have to work with -- we get to work with our community partners in preparing for these things that we all hope never happen."
Carilion regularly runs exercises like this at all of its hospitals.
