LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) In Lexington, a church named for Robert E. Lee is once again looking at a change.
The Robert E. Lee Memorial Church has discussed changing its name in the past, but the situation came to the forefront again after the conflict in Charlottesville and some questions about the church’s name by a bishop.
“It’s an ongoing concern, more for some than for others," says Senior Warden Woody Sadler. "In fact, we’re meeting with the bishop here on Tuesday, and he’s going to come and talk to us about the leadership and the name change and maybe how we can all come together.”
Lee was himself a member of the church – then known as Grace Episcopal -- when he lived in Lexington after the Civil War.
