LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The $40-million expansion of Liberty University's football stadium is in full swing.

Construction crews are now working to finish up the concrete columns where the seats will be placed at William Stadium.

LU officials say they're modeling the stadium after other collegiate football fields. "There's a lot of different stadiums out there that we're modeling after, Baylor, Texas AM. These are all beautiful state of the art stadiums that are inspiring us to those kinds of levels," said Brad Butler, the Construction Planning Coordinator at LU.

The expansion will include a standing space at the east end of the field.

Construction is set to wrap up in time for their home opening game in August.
