Lynchburg Police investigating accident involving a pedestrian

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Lynchburg Police responded to a call about a pedestrian-involved accident along Fort Avenue Monday afternoon.

Reports say an officer was driving westbound near the intersection of Fort Avenue and Griffin Street when a 17-year-old walked on the roadway and moved into the path of the officer's vehicle before the car hit her.

As a result, the woman was injured and transported to the hospital.

Fort Avenue was closed for approximately two hours and has since been reopened.

This is an ongoing investigation.
