State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- State police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Lynchburg early Saturday morning.

According to Lynchburg Police, at 1:15 a.m. on February 17, officers noticed an open front door at a home in the 2100 block of Link Rd.

LPD says two officers approached the front door and announced their presence.

That's when police say the officers encountered a man inside and fired their weapons, hitting the man inside the home in his leg.

He was taken to Lynchburg General for treatment of injuries that police said were not life threatening.

According to real estate records, the home is owned by Walker and Kate Sigler.

Neighbors say two young children also live here.

No one else was injured during this incident.

The officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave, per LPD protocol.

The shooting remains under investigation by State Police.
