Lynchburg Police investigating armed robbery

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at a local restaurant that occurred on Dec. 31, 2017, at approximately 10:30 a.m.

According to a release from the department, officers responded to the IHOP at 5500 Fort Avenue for a report of an armed robbery.

Police say a black male wearing black sweatpants, a blue hoodie, black shoes and black gloves entered the store brandishing a firearm before demanding money.

The individual later fled the restaurant on foot; running towards Wards Road with an undisclosed amount of money, according to a release from the Lynchburg Police Department.

No one was injured in this incident. The robbery remains under investigation.
