LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Friday is Arbor Day.
And The City of Lynchburg celebrated 34 years as a tree city with a special ceremony.
Local leaders picked the Laurel Regional Program to host the annual Arbor Day Ceremony.
Students taught the crowd what they have learned about trees, and got a special visit from Appleseed.
The school was also presented with a Tree City USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation.
“It ties it together so that they're not just seeing pictures of trees and they're also able to now plant so they're able to carry that out and so for our students giving the opportunity for as much hands on as possible is really important,” Laurel Regional Program Director Donna Lewis said.
The students gave their teachers a helping hand in planting four new trees around the Laurel Regional Program Campus.
