LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Ten children in Lynchburg got the chance to shop till they dropped with local police officers and firefighters.
The event was called “Hanging with Heroes.”
The departments partnered with Walmart to donate money to families who are not receiving assistance from any other programs.
The children were chosen by local community pastors involved in the “One Community, One Voice” organization.
Parents say this event came just in time for Christmas. “I was struggling because I just lost my job three weeks ago … so, this helps… like I’m going to cry," said Nikki Reynolds, a mother-of-three.
This event is a way for local Police Officers and Firefighters to meet the youth and their parents and began to form relationships.
