Lynchburg co-op receives necessary funding for downtown grocery project

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A co-op that has been working to bring a grocery store to downtown Lynchburg has received the funding necessary to move forward with its project.

The Lynchburg Economic Development Authority (LEDA) has agreed to fund construction of Grassroots Local Market, according to a statement on the co-op's Facebook page.

The economic development authority is providing $200,000 through its revoling loan fund, according to co-op leaders. The money will be used for equipment and construction, leaders said.

Money from the EDA loan will be combined with approximately $175,000 raised through member and donor support, co-op leaders said.

According to the Facebook statement, construction on the new grocery store will begin immediately.

The new business will be located at 1300 Main Street in downtown Lynchburg.
