LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Work is underway to bring a new business to a former grocery store in Lynchburg.

A Convergys call center is being constructed at the Forest Hills Shopping Center on Linkhorne Drive. Convergys is a company that focuses on customer management.

The call center will employ more than 600 people over the next three years, and it could open as early as March.

Contractors are renovating a space that housed a Kroger grocery store until a few years ago.

Florence Wilder has owned the "Nice As New" consignment store at Forest Hills Shopping Center for 37 years and says she welcomes her new neighbor.

"Hopefully it will bring traffic to us, because it has been empty for the last couple of years," Wilder said of the shopping center. "There's a lot of hope in this project for the economy, since it will bring jobs."

The center will start hiring customer service representatives in the summer.
