Lynchburg health service for the uninsured plans expansion

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A service for the uninsured is expanding in Lynchburg.

Johnson Health Center has purchased property on Atherholt Road, near Lynchburg General Hospital. The site will be home to a new health center for women and children. Those groups currently receive services at a smaller building on Federal Street.

Johnson Health Center leaders say the new facility will allow them to serve more patients and put them closer to the doctors who provide care.

"It's 25 percent larger than our current facility, so it will offer us additional space for patient rooms," explained Chelsey Tomlin, community outreach coordinator for Johnson Health Center.

The new Johnson Health Center location is expected to open in February.
