Lynchburg police officer, man hurt during foot chase Tuesday morning

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A Lynchburg police officer and a man were hurt during a foot chase Tuesday morning.

The officer and man are expected to be OK.

According to the police department, officers were working in the area of Cleveland and Magnolia Place after reports of vehicle larcenies. Officers saw a man walking and tried to approach him, but he started running.

The man jumped over a chain link fence and retaining wall, and fell between 15 and 20 feet into the parking lot of the old Food Lion on Bedford Avenue. The officer followed the man over the chain link fence and retaining wall.

Both were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and are expected to be OK.

The man has not been charged.
