Charges are pending against a driver in Lynchburg, following a pursuit through the city Tuesday morning.

Virginia State Police say a trooper tried to pull over a vehicle on Route 29 in Campbell County, after spotting what the trooper called "reckless driving."

When the trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, state police say the driver sped away toward Candlers Mountain Road. Troopers say they initiated a pursuit, during which the driver crashed into a vehicle on Candlers Mountain Road.

One person was inside the vehicle that was hit and that person suffered minor injuries, according to state police.

Troopers tell WDBJ7 the vehicle they were pursuing crashed into a car in front of the Oakwood Country Club, causing minor injuries to the person inside the vehicle that was hit.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of VES Road and Rivermont Avenue, state police said. A state trooper stopped the pursuit by crashing a patrol vehicle into the car they were pursuing, according to a trooper at the scene. After the crash troopers say the driver who was being pursued took off on foot, but was later arrested nearby.

State police say a spokesperson from Richmond will issue a statement later about the crash, detailing the name of the driver arrested and the charges they will face.
