LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Adult Care Center is a place for caregivers to drop off their loved ones during the day and have peace of mind. It hosts a lot of veterans as well as adults who need extra assistance.
Being a care-giver can take a toll on someone both mentally and physically. Numbers show about 29 percent of adults in the US are taking care of a family member.
Don Littlejohn was diagnosed with dementia about three years ago. His daughter stepped up to take care of him.
"It is a toll. And it's lonely. It's very lonely. If you want to do anything you have to like rely on someone else to help you," said Donnas Farley, Littlejohn's daughter.
He spends his days at the Adult Care Center so his daughter can work.
The center is hosting a 5k fundraiser this weekend at Lynchburg College to help these families and caregivers.
