Main Street directors meet in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) -- The Main Street program is a nationwide effort to revitalize historic downtowns through historic preservation and economic programs.

On Main Street in Lexington, they’re having a retreat where leaders of more than 25 Main Street organizations around Virginia can gather and exchange ideas and methods to help encourage the downtown areas of their cities.

“It gives everyone an opportunity to see what’s working in other communities and what isn’t," Rebecca Rowe, the state coordinator for Virginia Main Street, said. "It gives everyone a little time to vent, to learn some new things, and to slow down and work together as a group, everyone with the same focus.”

The conference runs through Friday.
