Man wanted in connection with Martinsville murder arrested in eastern Virginia

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Martinsville police have arrested a man in connection with a murder that happened in the city last month.

Terrell Kiwon Martin, 24, is charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in the city.

Officers say Tyrone Herndon was shot at a Valero gas station on Brookdale Road December 30. He died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Police announced charges against Martin shortly after the murder took place, but they were unable to locate him initially. He was arrested in Franklin, Virginia around 1:00 Thursday afternoon.

In a statement to WDBJ7, Martinsville police thanked Franklin police officers, Virginia State Police, and members of the United States Marshall’s Task Force for their help in locating and arresting Martin.

Martin will be transported to Martinsville to face charges in connection with Herndon's death.
