MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) No changes to the Martinsville Fire Department, even though it's working under budget.

City council cut the department's budget by $170,000.

Chief Ted Anderson says even with the cuts, the department is still able to keep 7 firefighters on duty.

Anderson says any less could become a safety issue.

City council says it will find a way to help the fire department if funding becomes a concern.

Chief Anderson says the department is working to increase community involvement and interaction.

They plan on creating awareness through social media on what they are doing to keep the community safe.
