Martinsville absentee voting low, leaders still hoping for strong voter turnout

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) In Martinsville, those working in the registrar's office say the number of absentee voters is down from the last presidential election.

Also, the number of registered voters is down.

In 2012, only 68 percent of those registered voted.

However, leaders say they are expecting a higher turn out this year with local city council elections as well.

Population records do not show a drop in the city's population.
