Martinsville man charged with hit and run and 3rd DUI

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) One man is in jail after a hit and run that happened in Martinsville on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m.

Deputy Chief Robert Fincher of the Martisnville Police Department, says Brian Derek Martin, 51, of Martinsville, was driving east on Commonwealth Boulevard in a Chevrolet pickup truck when he struck the rear of a Dodge sedan that was stopped at a traffic light near VC Drive.

The force of the impact caused the Dodge to ram into a Chevrolet sedan that was in front of it.

Martin ran away before police and rescue crews arrived at the scene.

The rescue squad members of Collinsville Rescue and other citizens helped to direct officers to the area where Martin was quickly located and captured.

Martin was charged with Felony Hit and Run, Felony DUI 3rd Offense, Driving While Revoked and Reckless Driving.

Two people were injured in the accident. They were transported to SOVAH Health Of Martisnville. Their condition is unknown.
